Hang it up?

Ever want to hang it up? I'm modding now and am likely to continue for an hour or so but in the same breath part of me wants to hang it up.

Just a little burn out. It will pass. This is a good activity for me while my foot is healing. :-)

  2. Every once and a while I want to hang it up, typically after a project. This is a LONG project so it's more likely to crop up now and again. I did put in another hour or so since that last post but I am taking a break for tonight. Only for tonight. :-)

  3. Of course. Well, it's not as much that I *want* to hang it up, but that I start thinking perhaps that I should (the thinking typically goes: it's taking over my free time - and thoughts to some extent - and for what? :) )

So far though I've found that those periods don't last as long as those where modding feels good, which would seem to indicate things are still looking up.

When that happens, a bit of mod playing for a part of the evening or for a few days if need to, and things will usually get back in place.

As for leaving NWN2 altogether: that has of yet never come to mind for longer than a fleeting thought.

  4. No, I never feel like that :)Okay, a little bit then, but mostly it's more like: "Why am I doing this, no one will play this and everybody will tell me how I spent almost a year building something worthless..." Then I try to think about what it's really about - a hobby to relax from work with. Something fun to do when there's only crap on the TV, like painting or knitting.

Someone said (I don't remember who) that it's endurance that makes great artists, not talent.

  5. sounds like we all get the same thoughts. I'm feelign more anxious about the reception of chapter 2 than I was about 1. And towards the end, especially with the niggly bugs, I was getting really fed up with it. And part of the problem I have is that building has made me enjoy playing slightly less - I'm always thinking behind the scenes and wondering how/why somethign was done, or ye gods didn't they playtest this how can a lvl X class possibly overcome Y..?

E.C.'s right - I do wonder about the commitment I'm making. I enjoy it, but I've stopped playing other games as i don't have time outside what I put in on the toolset. And I miss that a bit.

  6. I think you guys have hit the nail on the head. Those thoughts sound very familiar. I'm syncing my iPod before work and if I were home today. Guess what I would be doing.

    Yup.... you guessed right.

  7. Modding? No - It's one of the best mediums for artistic creativity!

    NWN2? We'll see...

Between random TS crashes, loss of work, various quirks and stuff, it can turn what should have been a "good time" into something rather frustrating that feels more like a day job!

Despite all of this... Guess what I was doing before work today? ;)

  8. Yup, sounds about right.

Another round of modding for everyone. Huzzah!

  9. There's nothing wrong with taking a sabatical. However, once the modding infection has set in, forever will it consume your destiny.

Taking on a solo project is extremely draining, and it is far to easy to want to give it the ole punt every now and again. Although I can tell from your blog that this is a great project that deserves its release.

Don't let it ever become work. When you stop having fun is when the quality starts to drop. Although judging from the screenshots, I'd wager you are still enjoying yourself, despite a few moments of WTF moments.

  10. Thanks Raith.

I'm back in the swing for now but appreciate the post, particularly the Empire Strikes Back reference.

I'm getting close to the end of area design, then I'll have to see how much dialog I can salvage from the original Hythum. Some will stay, some is going to be redone.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

    Ernie
