Musings on positive and negative uses of CGI in Film

 I received a copy of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny for Christmas.   I have a compromised immune system and stay away from theaters.  Despite the mixed reviews and underperformance at the box office, I was excited to watch it.   I enjoyed the movie, and my expectations were exceeded, probably because they were very low due to all the mixed and poor reviews.  I liked it better than Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and although the director, James Mangold, did a good job with the look and flavor of the movie, something felt like it was missing.  I suspect it was the absence of the creative trio of George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Larry Kasdan.  I spent some time thinking about why this Dial of Destiny worked better for me than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  I think it was use of a great deal of practical in camera effects, and careful use of when CGI was used.   This led me to reflect on the use of CGI in film, both good and bad.   I think Dial of Destiny has a

New 5e One Shot Adventure - Necropolis of the Forebearers

  Necropolis of the Forebearers  is now available at DMs Guild. A 5e One Shot Adventure for 2nd or 3rd Level Characters Violent storms caused part of the cliffs of the forebearers to collapse into the sea, revealing the entrance to an ancient tomb.   Now the head of a powerful merchant family is mounting an expedition to the tomb in hopes of finding proof that he and his family are of royal blood.   Competitors seek to thwart the expedition and tombs are dangerous places filled with mysterious magic, lethal traps, and complex histories.   Sometimes the dead do not remain dead.     Necropolis of the Forebearers is an adventure for four to six 2nd or 3rd level characters.  At its core the adventure is an old-school dungeon crawl set in an ancient tomb crawling with undead.
