Inching Forward

I'm inching forward on Hythum. The Port Leaton city exterior is pretty much done and I'm working on the palace, which is the setting of some important action. The throne room is key, that's all set, and now I am plodding through the rest of the interior. It's coming along nicely but really seems to drag in the toolset. I've got about 20 rooms to decorate, and I am getting through 1 or 2 per night.

The palace is one of the larger interiors, that is not a 'Dungeon' type of area.

I wish it were going faster but I am making progress none the less.

When the palace is done there are other port leaton interiors to do but they are smaller. I do have a temple and I'm thinking of grabbing the Chapel interior mini tileset I've seen on the vault. It's not a location that players visit often or for long, so I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble, but it would look fantastic.

  1. Nice to see things are coming along, Ernie.

Good idea about using the prefab for the temple - nice time saver there!

  2. I'm so impressed over how fast you work. This is your third module and everything goes as an express train.

How many hours do you spend on the mod every week?

  3. Too many. On a weeknight, I get an hour in, 2 if I'm very luck. On the weekend, I usually get a good chunk of time in, 8 hours give or take a few.

I really need to put the thing down.

A few things are really helping me in this case.

    1) It's my third NWN2 mod, so I've got the hang of what I'm doing.
    2) Everyone in the community is very generous. I've got nice people making airships for me. Other folks are telling me the best way to manage my 2da files, etc... it really helps.
    3) This mod is already finished for NWN1, so I know where I am headed.

Your Zork mod looks fantastic. I think it's going to make a HUGE impact when it's launched.

  4. Aha, I see. About 18 hours a week, and I thought I was putting in a lot of hours into Zork (about 8-10 every week) :) It look fabulous so far and both I and my wife looks forward to play it. We just finished KotB. We played it very slowly and it was a very good low-level adventure experience.

About the community. I start to think that the NWN2 mod-builders community is more helpfull than the NWN1 was/is. Maybe it's because of the initially lesser perfect product that forces people to co-operate or that the projects get so large with it that we need each others helping hand in a different way.

Zork will be a niche module and I'm not really sure about the overall impact. The hack/slashers will hate it. The roleplayers too. A lot of curious players will think it is to difficult and the real Zorkers will think it's a pity that not every thing is done as in the original. The only thing I'm sure about is that everyone will agree on that a lot of work has been put into it :)

Well, my employees usually call me The Man in Black, and not only for my dress code. :D

  5. Sometimes I take a break, or just get busy with real life, but a few hours of modding here or there is certainly relaxing. It's also very easy to get up and go fetch a class of milk or bowl of cereal for the kids. It's also pretty easy just to shelve it and go play with my kids too!

I try to remain available to them as much as possible. that's why Massively multiplayer games don't work well for me.

I am really looking forward to zork. Should be loads of fun.

  6. I personally love modules that are not run of the mill Amrapheal. So very much looking forward to it.

And Ernie's modules always seems to have a unique flare to them as well :) From what I can tell. I'm going to be busy this year playing some great modules!! :)

  7. Thanks Liso! I agree about Amraphael's upcoming mod, and I appreciate the compliment!
