2da Problem and NWNPodcast

I decided to take another crack at including the Pocket Citadel. I was excited when I realized I did not included the updated 2da files in my HAK file as well as the override directory, but I thought it was worth a shot. No luck same error. Here's the screen shot. I may tinker a bit more with this. Wish me luck.

On another note, there is a new NWN Podcast out today, number 45. Check out the link on the right. Download the podcast, get in game and level up. Thanks to the podcast team for mentioning me during the podcast once or twice. Very cool!

  1. Of course you were mentioned :) I feel very fortunate to have the ability to meet so many talented community members via the podcast. One of many perks being a part of the nwnp team!!

Next release is the round table!!!

  2. I listened to the round table the other day while working on my module it kind of inspired me to do more work.

  3. @liso Thanks. :-) I appreciate what the podcast team does, and it's always nice to be mentioned or included.

@delak I have the opposite problem. I need a good strong motivator to put it down and walk away from it.

  4. Ernie - I assume 3 active boys could be a pretty strong force of "putting it down and walking away" (grins)

Or is that dragged off and pulled away? lol

  5. I'm pretty good about putting it down for my family, but it tends to become my dominate leisure activity, it would probably be healthy to have a few others. :-)

  6. While I am not familiar with the HAK or how it is being used, I am very familiar with .Net and the wonderful errors it produces.

The error you are getting comes as a result of it expecting the part of the 2DA file it is parsing to be the string equivalent of a number but it is not. Based on the error, I would say it comes from one of the columns relating to appearance.

This is why I hate 2DA files with a passion... there is little to no structure and no means of telling how the parser chooses to read the file.

It could be any number of things like:

    - additional non-numeric value which lies between the two columns that are tab delimited

    - A place where *** values are not expected

    - Appending of two files together where one line accidentally trails after a previous one because there was no Carriage Return on the end of the file when pasted

    - An accidental "space" put in when it wasn't expecting it

    - One value in one of the columns is missing. Something that is easily done when there isn't enough space between columns. Its hard to tell if you have missed a value completely.

Have you tried using one of the 2DA editors that are out there? I haven't had a close look at them, but I would think one of the main functions for these 3rd party programs is to seamlessly merge 2DA files together.

  7. Thanks. I work with ASP.NET myself. :-)

I am using a 2da editor. I'm combining 4 or 5 2das to get to my present state. I am pretty sure I've got something off in a 2da just as you indicated.

Perhaps I'll try another editor and give it another shot.

I've already built the temple using other methods and it looks quite good, although the pocket cathedral would have been SWEET.

I'll try another 2da editors down the line. Thanks so much for taking time to reply in such great detail.
